Nerdist’s mock Suicide Squad trailer has fun with fans’ worst nightmares

It has been a few months since the first images of Jared Leto’s Joker appeared and caused an Internet-wide epidemic of face-palming, but fans are as on-edge as ever about the direction of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.

And it’s not just because DC’s most iconic villain showed up looking like a hipster that just hit the lotto. A steady drip of dubious decisions by the film’s creative team has created a palpable air of skepticism around the project. At this point, no one is quite sure whether this film will fire on all cylinders or make like the Joker’s gag gun and open with a “Bang!”

Thankfully, Nerdist is having some fun with your worst fears and has created a hilarious mock trailer for the film, which you can see above.

Featuring an Ed Hardy hat, a discman, and plenty of shots of the villains vaping, in a word, the trailer is “Siiiiick!” There’s also a brilliant little touch at the end that references a recent Summer blockbuster about a much different kind of crew.

With its host of talented actors and great characters, Suicide Squad should have fans geeking out right now, but even the first shot of the team in costume caused little more than a collective, meh.

The film may have earned back a bit of street cred when fans heard that it was dark enough to warrant an on-set therapist, but the majority of the PR has been negative thus far.

We hope the film outperforms its promotional materials but, if it ends up going down in flames, there’s always the chance that Nerdist turns this into a full-length parody.

Get down off that ledge fans. We haven’t even seen the (real) trailer yet. Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad is set to release August 5, 2016 and stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.
