Backstreet’s back (alright), and they’re bringing some old rivals/longtime friends along for the ride.
That’s right, ’90s boy band devotees no longer have to choose between the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync. Nick Carter, of Backstreet Boys fame, is writing, directing and starring in the Western zombie flick Dead 7 and he’s bringing along an unlikely co-star: ‘N Sync’s Joey Fatone.
Backstreet alum A.J. McLean will also star in the SyFy original which was announced at this past weekend’s Comic-Con.
Carter and Fatone, who will both play heroes in Dead 7, can finally resolve their fierce rivalry which was in reality “all contrived,” said Carter (via Buzzfeed). “We shared the same management, same label … but they would always kinda keep us away, apart, but there was actually no legitimate reason.” Now the two former pop stars will finally unite on this full-length movie. (McLean is billed as the “apprentice to the main villain.”)
“Dead 7 is the story of a ragtag band of gunslingers who must rid a small town of a zombie plague in a post-apocalyptic West,” the press release claims. “Carter will play Jack, the reluctant hero who unites the outlaws to face the zombie menace.”
With such an eccentric project, it’s no surprise that the trio will be working with Asylum, the same studio that produced the epic, so-bad-it’s-good thriller, Sharknado.
While we’re not expecting Carter and Fatone to bust out duets together, they’ll certainly be working together to fight off zombies. Carter even asked current boy band One Direction’s Niall Horan to play his brother, although he hasn’t gotten a response yet. Lauren Kitt, Carter’s wife, will also star in the film.
In the meantime, Nick Carter is definitely hyping up Dead 7 which has a TBA release date. “Think about it,” Carter told Buzzfeed. “Boy-banders, people from the late ’90s, people who you love, fighting zombies in a post-apocalyptic world. Pretty crazy, right?”
