This week’s update firmly establishes Guitar Hero Live‘s focus on contemporary music, as many featured tracks are from currently touring artists and recently released albums.
Modern rock tracks shipping with Guitar Hero Live this fall include The Vines’ “Metal Zone,” Wolf Alice’s “Moaning Lisa Smile,” TV On The Radio’s “Lazerray,” and Foster the People’s “Coming of Age.”
Other songs featured in Guitar Hero Live‘s on-disc setlist include OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars,” Paramore’s “Now,” Cypress Hill ft. Tom Morello’s “Rise Up,” Asking Alexandria’s “The Final Episode,” and Disturbed’s “Down With the Sickness.”
Many of Guitar Hero Live‘s featured tracks debuted within the last year, contrasting the multi-generational approach adopted by Harmonix’s competing band simulation game Rock Band 4. This week’s announced songs for Rock Band 4 include Van Morrison’s 1967 hit “Brown Eyed Girl” and Aerosmith’s “Toys in the Attic,” originally released in 1975.
Rock Band 4 additionally includes classic rock tracks like The Who’s “The Seeker” and Ozzy Osbourne’s “No Rest for the Wicked” alongside newer songs from established artists like Paramore and St. Vincent.
Guitar Hero Live updates the rhythm-driven action of its series predecessors with a focus on live performance, presenting gameplay from a first-person perspective with live-action video backdrops. Guitar Hero Live also introduces a new guitar peripheral and Guitar Hero TV, an on-demand service that streams playable tracks and music videos from featured artists. It is being developed by DJ Hero creator FreeStyle Games as its first entry in the popular franchise.
Guitar Hero Live premieres for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U platforms on October 20.
