In an interview with THR, Wain revealed that “there are all sorts of pie-in-the-sky discussions of what might be next.” He acknowledged that its a little early for such discussions, but did hint at more to come. “I’m sure there could be something next,” he said.
During a TCA press tour event Wednesday, Showalter pointed out that he and Wain would have to get the others back on board, which, considering the ridiculous cast list, would be no small task.
“If everyone wants to do it, we’ll do it,” Showalter said, according to Deadline. Luckily, the series has been able to be flexible so far. As Showalter explained, “The time commit for this cast is quite accommodating,” as the team has tried to create “an environment that is easy for people being able to say yes.”
It’s clear that what they’ve done has worked so far. The Netflix prequel has managed to bring back almost the entire cast, even though nearly 15 years have passed since Wet Hot American Summer hit theaters, with plenty of changes occurring in those years when it comes to star status. Returners include Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper, Molly Shannon, Amy Poehler, Christopher Meloni, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, and so many more. In addition to that already impressive group, the cast has expanded to include still more big names; Kristen Wiig, Jon Hamm, Chris Pine, and Lake Bell are just some of the recent additions.
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp will bring us back to the start of the crazy summer we got a glimpse of in the movie. Another installment could easily continue filling in the time between the first day of camp and Camp Firewood’s closing day, or maybe even go back further in the past. The cast may not be getting any younger, but that somehow hasn’t been an obstacle at all.
