MyTape is a new social video app for iOS that lets you shoot awesome videos, follow people, and watch what’s happening around you. It’s pretty similar to Twitter’s live-streaming app, Periscope, so it will be interesting to see if this app takes off.
When you first open MyTape, you will instantly see the shooting screen, which is ready for some action. Similar to Snapchat, press and hold to record, and release to share what’s going on. You can even turn on the flash or reverse the camera, but that’s all for now.
You’ll need to keep your finger on the white shutter button, so your video can be under 20 seconds long. Once you release your finger from the shutter button, you can add your location and a tag. From there, you can share your video via Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, WhatsApp, text, and email. Of course, if you create a video that you’re not happy with, you can delete by tapping on the trash can in the left-hand corner of your video.
If you’re looking to navigate your way between all of the different screens, you can easily swipe left, right, or down. You can check out your notifications, on the left, and on the right. You can also view video feeds, your profile, and settings. There’s a search screen, too, where you search videos by tag.
Just like Periscope and Meerkat, MyTape will notify your followers when you’re shooting a new video, this way they can post comments in real time. Since videos are only 20 seconds long, most people probably won’t take advantage of this feature, though.
While MyTape competes with Periscope, it’s also different because it wants to create a global community for video enthusiasts. It’s not only well-designed, but it’s also easy to use.
You can download MyTape from the App Store here.
