It’s that time of year again: Time to start your back-to-school shopping. And if your name happens to be Jabba the Hutt, boy, do we have the accessory for you. And even if you’re not an enormous, amorphous space worm, this is still pretty cool.
Toy maker Comic Images has just released a backpack that features everyone’s favorite scoundrel encased in carbonite once again. The carbonite-grey pack features Han Solo’s likeness on the back, frozen in glorious 3D agony, complete with comically tiny plush hands and feet. Plus, it’s far more practical than toting around a two-ton hunk of space rock.
For the uninitiated, the likeness is from Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back during which Darth Vader freezes Solo to test the efficacy/safety of the process before attempting to use it on Luke Skywalker. Luke, of course, escapes his clutches and Han is later freed. Also for the uninitiated: Gently remove the rock you’ve been living under, find a television, and screen the original trilogy immediately.
Comic Images — which also sells DC Comics and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gear — has a number of wacky, creative, and cool themed toys, including a whole line of cuddly, giant-headed Star Wars characters. It also offers a series of quirky backpacks including Boba Fett, AT-AT, R2-D2, Stormtrooper, Wampa, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Wicket, and Yoda models.
That said, Han is clearly pièce de résistance. The only feature this is missing is push-button playback of the pre-freezing “I love you” “I know” exchange.
Come October, you can strap the smooth-talking smuggler to your back, or display him as the jewel of your Star Wars memorabilia collection. That’s when the backpack ships but it is currently available for preorder from BigBadToyStore, priced at $39.99.
