The trailer revisits some of the sisters’ most poignant moments, from Katniss volunteering to take Prim’s place as tribute in Panem’s deadly Hunger Games to Prim encouraging her to win. At the same time, there’s foreboding. “It’s the things we love that most that destroy us,” says President Snow (Donald Sutherland) over the image of the sisters dancing at a wedding.
Although Katniss is the protector, the teaser reminds us that Prim inspires much of her strength. “I don’t think you know how important you are to them,” Prim tells her, referring to how Katniss has become a symbol of hope to those rebelling against Snow’s authoritarian government. “I never asked for this. I just wanted to save my sister and keep Peeta alive,” Katniss later says.
Also likely to be hard on many fans is the reminder that Mockingjay — Part 2 will be the final film based on Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. Although we should be grateful that series was extended when Lionsgate broke Mockingjay into two parts, it’s still sad for those who have enjoyed the series to realize that the end is upon us. Somehow, it’s already been over three years since the first Hunger Games film came out in March 2012.
Mockingjay — Part 2 will open in theaters on Nov. 20, but tickets will go on sale well in advance. Fans can start snatching up seats starting Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. ET — about seven weeks before the film’s release date.
