The Foo Fighters’ first show in LA last night featured a very special guest for two songs: Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks. The rock legend performed her 1981 cut Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around, originally a duet with Tom Petty, accompanied by the Foo along with alt-rock sisters Haim on backing vocals.
After the six minute track, the group performed Fleetwood Mac’s Gold Dust Woman. “Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t want to leave until we at least do this,” said Grohl before they began the rendition. Grohl and Nicks had previously collaborated on his 2013 Sound City documentary, and even performed a song they wrote together, You Can’t Fix This, on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2013. That song was inspired by the death of Nicks’ godson, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.
Nicks first met LA rockers Haim, whom she calls her “sisters of the moon,” last October during a joint article in the New York Times’ T Magazine. Haim, who have been compared to Fleetwood Mac in the past, performed the song Rhiannon with Nicks for the publication. When they reunited last night, Nicks gave them a “magical scarf” to wear during the performance which the girls were extremely excited to wear.
Earlier this month in the UK, the Foo Fighters brought Queen’s Roger Taylor and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones onstage to perform Queen and David Bowie’s Under Pressure. “Now look. I don’t know if y’all have ever seen a supergroup. This is a ‘superdupergroup,'” Grohl said to the crowd according to Rolling Stone. “I don’t even know what to say because this kind of sh*t doesn’t happen every day. Let me just tell you that the Foo Fighters, right now, are living out our rock n’ roll fantasy with you tonight.”
We’re not sure if Grohl and the Foo Fighters will bring on more special guests for their remaining North American dates, but we certainly hope they do.
