Almost everyone needs a mouse for their computer, but some people don’t just need a mouse, they need a serious gaming mouse. For them, Cougar is rolling out a new flagship gaming mouse in the form of the 700M.

The 700M is all about customization. With eight fully programmable buttons, you’ll have everything you need right at your fingertips, which will be kept from slipping by the hexagonal tread pattern on the sides. The whole mouse is built around a lightweight aluminum chassis, which allows it to weigh just 110 grams at its lowest setting. However, that weight can be customized to your liking as well. The palm rest at the back has an adjustable height and two different shapes to suit every grip.

Under the hood, the 700M is powered by a 32-bit ARM processor and 512KB of on-board memory. That means all of your settings are saved to the mouse, and it’s totally plug-and-play compatible. The 8200 DPI laser sensor is a very competitive option as well, and the Cougar software suite allows acute customization of its properties.

There are a few other bells and whistles as well. A muzzle at the front of the mouse where the cable attaches keeps it from snagging on anything, as well as protecting the connection point. The lights sprinkled around the mouse are also fully customizable, with up to 16.8 possible colors. Micro switches by OMROM are guaranteed for up to five million clicks.

Perhaps best of all, the Cougar 700M costs just $59.99, the same price as the current flagship 600M, which is a bit more typical of a gaming mouse. That means you can decide whether you want a traditional experience, or something that allows a bit more tinkering. Either way, you’ll have a well-equipped mouse at a great price.

Sony’s Evo acquisition will be a good thing if it helps e-sports finally grow up
EVO

On Thursday, Sony shocked the e-sports world by acquiring Evo, the biggest fighting game tournament in the world. Reactions were immediately mixed. While some celebrated the new partnership, others lamented that the once plucky tournament had been lost to corporate greed.

The anxiety around the deal isn’t unfounded. Confused fans are now left wondering if games like Super Smash Bros. will still have a seat at the table or if Sony is going to strongarm its competitors out of the competitive fighting game arena. Evo claims that the tournament will remain platform-agnostic, but only time will tell how true that ends up being.
