Microsoft’s Major Nelson has announced the fifth and final new Xbox One console bundle in anticipation of the holiday shopping bonanza, and it’s one of the most anticipated: Fallout.
The Xbox One Fallout 4 Bundle includes a 1 TB console, a wireless controller with a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial, and digital download keys for Fallout 4 and Fallout 3. The bundle will come out alongside Fallout 4 on November 10, 2015, and is available for pre-order now from Microsoft for $400.
Fallout 4 is the first new entry in the long-running and beloved series of post-apocalyptic role-playing games since 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas. It is set in and around the remains of Boston. Bethesda’s last entry, 2008’s Fallout 3, set in the Capital Wastes around Washington DC, modernized the series from its isometric roots to being a hybrid first-person shooter. Fallout 3, originally released on PC and the previous generation of consoles, recently came to the Xbox One as part of the introduction of Xbox 360 backward compatibility. The franchise has been an influential pillar of open world gameplay since the 90s. Along with the Elder Scrolls franchise, it has cemented Bethesda’s position as a leading developer of the genre.
The Xbox One Fallout 4 Bundle joins a rash of recently-announced bundles that include a console and a number of other hot, upcoming titles in order to start your collection off right. These include Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider, 343 Industries’ Halo 5: Guardians, and the remastered Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
Xbox One had a strong holiday sales season in 2014, and with a slate of such huge, console pillar releases coming out over the next few months, Microsoft no doubt hopes to increase that success even further in the coming season. The introduction of backward compatibility, which rolls out broadly in the upcoming November system update, makes a stronger case than ever before for Xbox 360 gamers to upgrade to the newer console, confident that a large portion of their game library will be able to migrate with them.
