When he’s not being fast and/or furious, Vin Diesel apparently likes to kick back and hunt witches — and from what there is to see in the latest clip from his upcoming film The Last Witch Hunter, he’s pretty good at it, too.
Lionsgate has released a brief scene from the upcoming fantasy action film featuring Diesel’s character, Kaulder, battling a powerful witch (Or is it a wizard? Maybe a warlock?) and revealing that when it comes to magic, he’s got a little of his own, too.
The upcoming film casts Diesel as an immortal warrior who has spent the last few centuries exterminating witches and various other supernatural creatures bent on corrupting the world and unleashing all manner of nasty evils. When one of his greatest foes returns from the dead, he’s forced to find help in an unlikely place — among the witches — and try to bring an end to both the monstrous threat and the curse that was placed upon him when he was still mortal.
Along with Diesel, the film stars Game of Thrones actress Rose Leslie, as well as Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Michael Caine (The Dark Knight, Interstellar). Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Rena Owen, and Julie Engelbrecht play supporting roles.
The Last Witch Hunter is based on a screenplay by Cory Goodman that was later revised by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The script was included in the 2010 edition of the Hollywood “Blacklist” — a group of unproduced scripts that were regarded as some of best screenplays that hadn’t been made into movies yet — and is reportedly inspired by conversations Diesel had with Goodman about a character he played in the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.
Breck Eisner, who directed the 2010 horror movie The Crazies and the 2005 desert adventure film Sahara, directs the film.
The Last Witch Hunter hits theaters October 23, just in time for Halloween.
