Watch Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool recruit a new superhero team in this Halloween video

The solo debut of Marvel’s mouthy mercenary Deadpool arrives in theaters in just a few months, but Ryan Reynolds is certainly finding ways to keep busy while staying in character as his mutant alter ego. In a a new video posted by Reynolds, the actor dons his Deadpool costume to have a little fun with some young trick-or-treaters dressed up like the X-Men.

Titled “How Deadpool Spent Halloween,” the 96-second video features Reynolds interacting with pint-size versions of Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Wolverine, and Mystique (among other costumed kids) while hanging around a playground. Equal parts hilarious and adorable, the video also offers yet another example of why Reynolds seems to be the best man to bring Deadpool to the screen.

During the video Reynolds (as Deadpool) ridicules not only the X-Men themselves, but also his polarizing big-screen debut as the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and his past role as Hal Jordan in the box-office bomb Green Lantern. Reynolds’ eternally chatty antihero keeps his mouth running for almost the entire video, prompting the miniature version of Wolverine to remark, “I really wish we could sew his mouth shut again” (a reference to his character’s fate in X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool casts Reynolds as former Special Forces operative Wade Wilson, who agrees to undergo a mysterious treatment that — in addition to giving him superhuman powers — will cure the terminal illness that’s expected to cut his life short any day now. The experiment goes awry, however, and Deadpool embarks on a mission to get revenge on the government agent who ruined his life.

The script for Deadpool was penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Along with Reynolds, the film stars actor/comedian T.J. Miller as Weasel, fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, and Ed Skrein as Ajax. X-Men mutant Colossus will also appear in the film (and is glimpsed in the trailer), but he won’t be played by X-Men franchise actor Daniel Cudmore. Rumors indicate that Hugh Jackman could also make an appearance in the film, but nothing is confirmed regarding the Wolverine actor.

Deadpool is scheduled to hit theaters Feb. 12, 2016, and will be R-rated.

5 underrated Ryan Reynolds movies you should watch now
Ryan Reynolds points a gun in Smokin' Aces.

He’s a Canadian icon, an innovator in mobile phone services (as an owner of Mint Mobile, recently sold to T-Mobile), and a passionate English football team co-owner. Ryan Reynolds does more than just act. Nonetheless, the Hollywood star is best known for his time on the big screen, showing his range in everything from rom-coms to dramas, comedies to Marvel Comics superhero films.

Sure, Reynolds got his start on a little Canadian soap opera called Hillside, then starred on the TV show Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place. But he catapulted from National Lampoon’s Van Wilder to being taken seriously once he started taking on more dramatic and nuanced roles. Reynolds is about more than just Deadpool, The Proposal, Red Notice, and the one movie he wishes to forget, Green Lantern. He has had some fabulous, often forgotten roles, too.
