Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron are already attached to the upcoming Baywatch movie, and now it appears that the studio is turning its attention to the potential leading ladies for its comedic adaptation of the ’90s lifeguard drama series.

A new, unconfirmed casting report suggests that Paramount Pictures is considering several notable actresses to take on roles in the film, which is likely to feature several female leads joining Johnson and Efron.

According to Deadline, the list of rumored contenders for Baywatch roles includes Pretty Little Liars and Spring Breakers actress Ashley Benson (pictured), True Detective actress Alexandra Daddario (who recently co-starred with Johnson in the disaster movie San Andreas), The Vampire Diaries and The Final Girls actress Nina Dobrev, Teen Wolf and Unfriended actress Shelley Hennig, The Duff and Ouija actress Bianca Santos, X-Men: Apocalypse actress Alexandra Shipp (set to play the mutant Storm in the upcoming film), and Dog With A Blog actress Denyse Tontz.

The report indicates that there’s some uncertainty regarding the actual number of roles the studio is looking to fill with this pool of actresses, so several of the aforementioned actresses could end up in featured roles. With production expected to move into high gear early next year, though, the cast will likely be finalized in the near future.

Set to be directed by Horrible Bosses filmmaker Seth Gordon, the Baywatch movie is expected to be a comedic take on the series in the same way the recent 21 Jump Street movie sampled from the popular TV show that inspired it.

The film is said to follow a former Olympian who clashes with a team of lifeguards, and original Baywatch stars Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff are expected to have cameo roles.

There’s no specific release date for the Baywatch movie at this point.

If you have to watch one Star Wars movie this May the 4th, stream this one
Luke looking off into the binary sunset before dying in The Last Jedi.

Every Star Wars fan has a favorite movie, and many Star Wars fans also hate at least one of the entries in one of their favorite franchises. That can make the exercise of choosing the perfect Star Wars movie to watch on May the 4th difficult. For all of the love this fan base has shown to the franchise over the years, it's also a fan base that has strong opinions about why one movie or another is worthy of your time.

This May 4, though, I'd recommend watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Almost undoubtedly the most controversial entry in the saga, one that makes some people furious and others jump for joy, The Last Jedi is worthy of your attention, whether you like what it's doing or not. Here are three reasons you should check it out:

With its Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ad, Nintendo just made one of 2023’s best movies
A man plays The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game.

It's not a revelation to claim that most modern advertising is pretty in-your-face and graceless. In a limited amount of time, companies are concerned with selling their product as quickly as possible, leaving no room for nuance or, dare I say it, poetry. Video game commercials are especially egregious; as any experienced gamer can tell you, those awful Sega ads from the '90s (this one is particularly terrible) still haunt many to this day.

So it's a bit of a surprise to discover a video game ad that isn't loud for the sake of being loud, crude to appeal to the lowest common denominator, or abstract just for the sake of it. Nintendo's been gearing up for its biggest release of 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it's clear they wanted to make it stand out from the crowd. Mission accomplished, as the latest commercial for the game, a nearly wordless two-minute paean to not just Zelda but also to the power of video games, strikes such a resonant emotional chord that it already ranks as one of the best things I've seen this year.

Engineers for James Webb have stacked its 18 images into one
James Webb Space Telescope illustration.

The work to get the James Webb Space Telescope ready to collect science data is still underway so that the telescope will be ready to share its first beautiful image of space this summer. The long and delicate process of aligning the telescope's primary and secondary mirrors continues, but recently engineers reached an important milestone when they completed the image stacking step.

Last week, engineers shared an image array showing 18 points of light. These were actually 18 images of the same star, bright star HD 84406 being used for the alignment process, which represent the 18 segments that make up the primary mirror. Each segment reflected the star, and the overall shape corresponded to the overall hexagonal shape of the mirror. The next step, called segment alignment, was to make small adjustments to each of the mirror segments and also adjust the secondary mirror so that the 18 points of light were sharper. NASA engineers shared the new image in a blog post this week.
