Despite the dozen years that have passed, Finding Dory picks up just six months after the jubilant reunion of Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) and his son, Nemo (now voiced by Hayden Rolence), after an oceanwide search for the little clownfish. The trio haven’t had much time for a break, but when Dory starts remembering tidbits about her family, she’s determined to go find them. Marlin and Nemo — good friends that they are — accompany her on the journey, which brings them to California.
The trailer kicks off with Dory developing a worrisome new habit: sleep-swimming. Nemo and Marlin manage to keep her from getting away, but she’s also sleep-talking. It’s entertaining when her unconscious thoughts lead her to talk about ratchet wrenches (she’s a fish, after all), but another comment tugs at your heartstrings: “Don’t cry, Mommy, don’t cry.” It sounds like there’s some sadness in the ever-cheerful fish’s past.
The preview shows Dory comically realizing her memory is (sort of) working. “I just used the word ‘before,’ which means I’m remembering something!” she announces. “What was I talking about?” Clearly, her recall isn’t 100 percent, but she does manage to hang on to the fact that she wants to find her family.
Over the course of the movie, Dory, Marlin, and Nemo meet a variety of other sea creatures, including Ty Burrell as a beluga whale, Willem DaFoe as a moorish idol, Vicki Lewis as a four-striped damselfish, and Ed O’Neill as an octopus. Dory’s family will appear as well, with her father being voiced by Eugene Levy, her mother by Diane Keaton, and her sister by Kaitlin Olson. Idris Elba and Dominic West are also among the talented voice cast.
It seems that DeGeneres is just as excited about the upcoming film as fans are; she highlighted how many years in the making Finding Dory has been in her tweet with the preview.

Finding Dory is directed by Andrew Stanton and produced by Lindsey Collins. The movie is due to hit theaters in June 17, 2016.
