The Dark Knight gets unmasked in new clip from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Update 12-1-2015: Warner Bros. Pictures has released the sneak peek at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The clip (which you can watch here) features Batman (Ben Affleck) shackled and hanging in an underground location. Superman (Henry Cavill) suddenly arrives, looking angry, and approaches The Dark Knight as the surrounding guards bow to the Man of Steel. He rips off Batman’s mask, revealing Bruce Wayne’s face.

A new, full trailer for the film will be released during Wednesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC.

In just a few months, two of comics’ greatest superheroes will square off on the big screen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and tonight brings yet another sneak peek at the much-anticipated brawl between DC Comics’ Dark Knight and Man of Steel.

Fox has announced that it will air a special preview of Batman v Superman during the midseason finale of Gotham this evening (Monday, November 30). The news was accompanied by a video of the Batman-themed television series’ cast offering their own predictions about the winner of a fight between Batman and Superman. Naturally, The Dark Knight was a popular pick.

Directed by Zack Snyder (Man of Steel) from a script by Chris Terrio (Argo) and David Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice puts the two iconic heroes on a collision course when the aftermath of Superman’s actions in Man of Steel leaves some fearing Earth’s new, godlike protector and others worshipping him. While the two heroes clash, a new threat emerges that tests them both and puts the world in danger once again.

Batman v Superman features Man of Steel star Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman, with Ben Affleck playing Bruce Wayne and his costumed alter ego, Batman. Also appearing in the film is Gal Gadot, the new Wonder Woman, as well as returning Man of Steel cast members Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), and Diane Lane (Martha Kent). The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg will make his debut as Lex Luthor, along with Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Holly Hunter will play an unidentified character created for the film.

The midseason finale of Gotham airs tonight, November 30, at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to hit theaters March 25, 2016.

Aside from a few promotional images and two trailers, audiences were largely in the dark as to the look and feel of The Batman. Would it be as dark and serious as the Nolan films? In the clip, a somber Bruce Wayne is seen talking to a politician as he enters a cathedral to attend a funeral. As he glimpses young boy who resembles his younger, orphaned self, he overhears James Gordon talking to another cop about the disappearance of Gil Colson. His eavesdropping is suddenly disturbed by escalating screams outside the cathedral. As the sounds of a car speeding outside increase, Wayne looks up to see a shadowy figure, the Riddler, standing on a balcony looking down at him. A car then crashes into the church and stops, allowing the Gotham City Police Department to surround it and see a man emerging: Colson. Wired with a bomb and a ringing cellphone, the clearly captive Colson reveals a letter attached to his chest with the words "To The Batman" written in black ink.
