Instead of summarizing the past year like its counterparts, social scrapbooking network Pinterest has taken to predicting the top trends for 2016 instead.
As part of the Pinterest 100 for 2016 the platform has created a board populated with trending pins from some of its most influential users. It’s a mish-mash of style and lifestyle trends ranging from culinary trends to exercise techniques and interior design tips. The list was compiled based on the pinning habits of 100 million people, reports The Huffington Post.
Among the trends are a selection of food pins that indicate what you should be eating and drinking in 2016. From homemade olive oils to desserts with a savory twist, the list of top foods will appeal to Pinterest users and foodies alike. Read on to find out more.
Avocado oil
Firmly replacing coconut oil in terms of pins, Avocado oil is rich in healthy fats, vitamins C and E, and antioxidants.
Pour-over coffee
Coffee lovers may already be aware of the Japanese pour-over method. For everyone else it is a precise process that requires water to be poured slowly into a filter containing ground coffee, placed over a cup or jug. The distinct results have created quite the buzz for the technique.
Homebrew
An increasing number of beer connoisseurs are learning to make their own beer in a variety of flavors. If you’re interested, Pinterest has the tutorial that you’ll need to get started.
Snacking and bento boxes
Originating in Japan, the bento box allows users to snack on several smaller dishes during the day.
DIY infused oils
Cooking oils make another appearance on the list, this time in the form of homemade infused olive oils, which can also be used as salad dressings. Check out some of the different ingredients you can use in them here.
Savory desserts
Savory French toast and pancakes will be replacing their sweet counterparts next year. Ditch the fruit and maple syrup for these recipes.
Beertails
That’s cocktail beers for the uninitiated. Mixing orange juice with beer for a ‘Beermosa’ may sound blasphemous to some, but could also be a unique serving suggestion for your next party.
Gourmet cultural cuisine
Your favorite traditional recipes from around the globe with a gourmet twist. Not sure what to expect? Check out this pin.
Distilling your own alcohol
DIY alcohol that is a far cry from moonshine, distilling your own spirits is the hip trend for 2016. Whether gin or vodka takes your fancy, Pinterest has you covered.
Veggie swaps
Those looking to cut carbs out of their diet in the new year will love this trend. More and more people are swapping pasta and meat for vegetables using inventive cooking techniques, claims Pinterest.
