There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott’s upcoming sequel to Prometheus that will further establish the connection between his prequel trilogy and the events of his 1979 franchise-spawning classic, Alien, but one thing that just became a lot clearer is who we’ll see on the screen when the film arrives in theaters.

Inherent Vice actress Katherine Waterston will reportedly play one of the lead roles in Covenant, portraying a character named “Daniels” in the film.

Waterston is expected to join returning cast members Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender in the 2017 sequel, according to Deadline, although the facts surrounding her character’s role remain just as much of a mystery as the film itself.

Official plot details remain scarce, but Alien: Covenant is expected to follow a colony ship that lands on a distant planet that initially seems like a paradise, but is soon revealed to be a terrifying, dangerous world. After landing on the mysterious planet, they encounter David, the android played by Fassbender in Prometheus — and as one might expect, events quickly begin to spiral out of control for the ship’s crew.

Waterston, who won an Independent Spirit Award as part of the ensemble cast of Inherent Vice, appeared in the Steve Jobs biopic released earlier this year, and will also play a supporting role in the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Scott recently indicated that Alien: Covenant will feature many of the more familiar forms of the alien xenomorph creatures from Alien and its sequels.

Production is expected to begin on Alien: Covenant early next year, with Scott directing the film from a script penned by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green (Green Lantern).

Alien: Covenant is currently scheduled to hit theaters October 6, 2017.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.

The best Netflix original series right now
Eric and Benedict Cumberbatch in Eric.

The era of Peak TV was also Peak Netflix, because the streamer seemingly had an endless supply of new original series. So far in 2024, that hasn't been the case. Whether we'll ever get the same level of content again seems unlikely for now. But even in a reduced capacity, Netflix still has a few new additions to its lineup of originals.

For the month of June, we're adding the '80s-set thriller, Eric, which stars Benedict Cumbebatch. Our other pick for the month is Supacell, which is Netflix's new British series that remixes some old superhero archetypes. That's not a very big selection for fans who always want something new, but this roundup of the best Netflix original series really does have all of the top options in one place for you. All you have to do is scroll down and make time to binge watch some shows.
