It seems like there’s something significant about the number 21 here, so we’ll have to keep an eye on that possible Easter Egg going forward, but let’s table that for a moment and dig into this latest preview, which offers an extended sneak peek at the mini-series.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the new promo goes behind-the-scenes for a look at the set of the new/old show and gives fans some insight into the process of bringing everyone’s favorite FBI special agents back to the small screen. It also includes commentary from series creator Chris Carter and helps refresh fans on where the show left off when the “final episode” aired in 2002.
If you’re one of those who is looking to go dark and avoid spoilers, however, you may want to watch with your pointer hovering over the pause button, as the spot does reveal a bit about the plot of the new show and the original series.
The new series is scheduled for six, 42-minute episodes and will reportedly provide a mix of stand-alone plot-lines, and episodes that expand upon the mythology of the original. Here’s how executive producer Glen Morgan put it “we knew the first and the sixth were mythology episodes and then the ones in the middle would be stand-alones that was really whatever Jim [Wong] and Darin [Morgan] and I came up with.”
If you’ve got 21 minutes to spare during your hectic Holiday Season, you can watch the whole video above, which features insight from both David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) in addition to tons of new footage from the show.
The revival is set to premier January 24, 2016 and also stars Joel McHale (Community), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Annabeth Gish (The Bridge), Annet Mahendru (The Americans), Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords) and Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley).
After over 13 years of waiting, X-Files fans are less than a month away from the series’ return … cue opening theme!
