Dwayne Johnson never seems to run out of gas. On top of the many film and TV projects he currently has in the works, the actor-slash-producer has added another: Johnson announced on Instagram Tuesday that his production team, Seven Bucks Productions, is working with Fox and Imperative Entertainment on Boost Unit, a car-centric cop show that will feature “intense and entertaining action” similar to that of the Fast and Furious franchise.

In his post, Johnson wrote about how much “bad-ass fun” he’s had working on Universal’s car-focused series and how Boost Unit will take inspiration from the real-life people who work in one of the Los Angeles Police department’s street units — one that the action star calls “one of the most bad-ass (and underground).” The project centers on a new recruit to the LAPD’s Auto Theft Task Force, according to THR, and he’s a force to be reckoned with behind the wheel, of course. Boost Unit is described as “Fast and Furious meets Rescue Me.”

The project definitely seems to have the potential to be as “dope” as Johnson promises. Episodes would be able to focus on a variety of different car-related crimes, from thefts to drug trafficking to terrorism. Naturally, there’d also be ample opportunity for high-speed chases.

With the amazing success of the Fast and Furious franchise, particularly Furious 7’s box office performance this summer, Fox is smart to develop a similar TV series. Fans haven’t seemed to tire of the high-speed action, so a show that incorporates it sounds very promising. The involvement of Johnson, whose scored a hit with his HBO series, Ballers, makes it all the more exciting.

Johnson, unfortunately, isn’t set to star in the project, but fans can hold out hope that he may appear at some point. The actor will executive produce alongside his Seven Bucks partner Dany Garcia as well as Heroes Reborn‘s Tim Kring, with further support from Imperative Entertainment. Jonny Umansky and Zach Hyatt will also serve as executive producers, in addition to writing the script.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.

The best Netflix original series right now
Eric and Benedict Cumberbatch in Eric.

The era of Peak TV was also Peak Netflix, because the streamer seemingly had an endless supply of new original series. So far in 2024, that hasn't been the case. Whether we'll ever get the same level of content again seems unlikely for now. But even in a reduced capacity, Netflix still has a few new additions to its lineup of originals.

For the month of June, we're adding the '80s-set thriller, Eric, which stars Benedict Cumbebatch. Our other pick for the month is Supacell, which is Netflix's new British series that remixes some old superhero archetypes. That's not a very big selection for fans who always want something new, but this roundup of the best Netflix original series really does have all of the top options in one place for you. All you have to do is scroll down and make time to binge watch some shows.
