Justice League character Aquaman’s movie debut is forthcoming, and so is that of his undersea queen, Mera. Warner Bros. is reportedly looking to Amber Heard to potentially take the role, with talks underway, according to Variety.

While Aquaman (played by Jason Momoa) is expected to join the DC Comics film franchise in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Variety sources say that Heard’s character wouldn’t emerge until Justice League, which is set to hit theaters in late 2017. The actress would also appear in Aquaman, another franchise installment, due out in 2018.

Justice League features an ensemble cast that includes Momoa, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ezra Miller, a group that is also expected to appear in Dawn of Justice. Aquaman, on the other hand, will be a standalone film, and therefore we’d expect Heard to have a bigger role in it than in Justice League, assuming she is officially cast in the movie franchise. In the comics, Mera goes from being Aquaman’s love interest to his wife. The two don’t exactly have a straightforward happily ever after, so it’ll be interesting to see how their relationship is portrayed in the films.

Heard isn’t known for superhero films. Her filmography is extremely varied, with 2015 alone including roles in Magic Mike XXLThe Adderall Diaries, and The Danish Girl. She has starred in The Rum DiaryPineapple Express, and Friday Night Lights as well, among others.

Should Heard appear in Justice League, she’ll be directed by Zack Snyder. The filmmaker also helmed Dawn of Justice, which will open in theaters on March 25. Aquaman is set to be directed by James Wan (Furious 7), and a team of three writers has reportedly been working on the script, including David Leslie Johnson (Wrath of the Titans, Orphan), Will Beall (Gangster Squad), and Kurt Johnstad (300300: Rise of an Empire).

Justice League is set for release on November 17, 2017.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.

The best Netflix original series right now
Eric and Benedict Cumberbatch in Eric.

The era of Peak TV was also Peak Netflix, because the streamer seemingly had an endless supply of new original series. So far in 2024, that hasn't been the case. Whether we'll ever get the same level of content again seems unlikely for now. But even in a reduced capacity, Netflix still has a few new additions to its lineup of originals.

For the month of June, we're adding the '80s-set thriller, Eric, which stars Benedict Cumbebatch. Our other pick for the month is Supacell, which is Netflix's new British series that remixes some old superhero archetypes. That's not a very big selection for fans who always want something new, but this roundup of the best Netflix original series really does have all of the top options in one place for you. All you have to do is scroll down and make time to binge watch some shows.
