4Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, and other standout titles from the 16-bit era star in Sega 3D Classics Collection, a Nintendo 3DS compilation due to launch in North America in April.
Sega 3D Classics Collection bundles a selection of nine revamped titles from Sega’s back catalog. While many of its featured games were previously released as standalone downloads via Nintendo’s eShop, Sega 3D Classics Collection additionally hosts a number of games never previously released for the 3DS.
Sega 3D Classics Collection includes ports of the ’80s Sega arcade games Power Drift, Thunder Blade, and Galaxy Force II, along with Sega Genesis versions of Altered Beast, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Puyo Puyo 2.
The compilation also includes Maze Walker and Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa, a pair of games that trace their origins back to the 8-bit Sega Master System. Fantasy Zone fans can additionally look forward to a port of the rarely seen Fantasy Zone II W, an arcade adaptation of Sega’s classic shooter developed decades after its initial Sega Master System release.
All included games have been updated with stereoscopic 3D support, along with various new options and enhancements. The collection’s featured arcade games give players the option of viewing the action from the cockpit of a simulated arcade cabinet, complete with flashing lights, original artwork, and environmental sound effects recorded from actual machines.
Sega 3D Classics Collection marks the North American debuts of Power Drift and Puyo Puyo 2, which were previously only available via the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan. The compilation’s included Sega Master System titles were never released digitally for the 3DS in any region.
Sega 3D Classics Collection will launch at retail and digitally via the Nintendo 3DS eShop in North America on April 26. Retail copies feature exclusive cover artwork by Pokémon art director Ken Sugimori.
