The film, an action-comedy that focuses on a mother-daughter duo, has yet to cast its matriarch to play opposite Schumer, and Hawn seems like a perfect option. Not only does she have the comedic chops to pull it off, she can draw on her experience of being the mother of another high profile actress, Kate Hudson. Fans shouldn’t get too excited about the prospect yet, though, as Hawn hasn’t accepted the role.
It seems Hawn also wasn’t the first choice for the role. THR reports that Sally Field and Frances McDormand were both reportedly in consideration early on, but neither ended up taking the part.
That said, seeing Hawn team up with Schumer in the upcoming comedy would be particularly special because it has been so long since she last appeared in a film. (She hasn’t starred in a movie since 2002’s The Banger Sisters.) Her most recent acting gig was as a voice role in a single episode of the Disney animated TV series Phineas and Ferb back in 2013. She’s ready to start taking on parts again, though, and is set to appear alongside her First Wives Club co-stars Bette Midler and Diane Keaton in a new Netflix original movie in which the women will play former bandmates.
The project with Schumer follows a mother and daughter whose vacation goes wildly off course. The script was originally written by Katie Dippold, with Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, adding their own touch to the script. Dippold is serving as executive producer, while Chernin Entertainment and Ghostbusters reboot director Paul Feig will produce.
