The DreamWorks Pictures project is an adaptation of David Finkel’s 2013 non-fiction book of the same name. In it, Finkel follows soldiers as they reenter civilian life following their tours in Iraq; the members of the group find themselves struggling as they attempt to resume their normal lives. The book is a follow-up to The Gold Soldiers, which chronicled one battalion’s time overseas.
The film was adapted by Jason Hall, the screenwriter behind American Sniper, who will also be making his directorial debut. Details about Schumer’s role in the project have not yet been announced, but the actress joins a cast that includes Miles Teller, Haley Bennett, Joe Cole, Beulah Koale, Scott Haze, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Brad Beyer, Omar Dorsey, and Jayson Warner Smith. Ann Ruark is serving as executive producer, while Jon Kilik is producing.
Schumer is perhaps best known for her comedy series, Inside Amy Schumer, for which she is the creator, star, co-producer, and co-writer. She has also proven herself at the box office, though, with this summer’s success of Trainwreck, which she wrote and starred in. The comedy grossed over $110 million in North America, according to Box Office Mojo data, and an additional $30 million overseas.
Thank You for Your Service joins a growing list of films on Schumer’s schedule, including a film she co-wrote with fellow actress Jennifer Lawrence and her sister, and one that could star her as the onscreen daughter of Goldie Hawn. The comedian joins Thank You for Your Service just as production is getting underway in Atlanta, Georgia. A release date has not yet been announced.
