Infiniti will stun show-goers in Beijing with a sporty crossover concept

Infiniti will travel to the biennial Beijing Auto Show to introduce a brand new concept called QX Sport Inspiration. The show car won’t be unveiled for at least another week, but the Nissan-owned car maker has published a dark teaser image to whet the appetite of its fans.

The QX Sport Inspiration takes the form of a crossover whose front end clearly falls in line with Infiniti’s latest design language. The teaser image reveals that the soft-roader gets a bolder version of the grille found on the recently introduced Q60 coupe accented by a large Infiniti emblem, sharp LED headlights made up of several rectangular blocks, and vertical air ducts that presumably direct cooling air to the brakes. Cameras mounted on what looks like extensions of the A-pillars replace the conventional mirrors.

With the notable exceptions of the Q80 Inspiration that was shown at the Paris Auto Show a year and a half ago and the Q50 Eau Rouge, a majority of Infiniti’s recent concepts have been previews of upcoming production vehicles. Infiniti is keeping its lips sealed, but it’s reasonable to assume that the QX Sport Inspiration will give us an early look at the next generation of the QX70. The current model was launched in 2008 as the FX, so it’s due for a replacement in the next year or so.

Stay tuned, Infiniti’s next concept will be introduced online in the next few days, and DT Cars will be in Beijing to bring you live images of it starting on April 25. The concept will be toned down and transformed into the next-generation QX. Look for the crossover to make its debut at a major auto show early next year, and to go on sale across the nation in time for the 2018 model year.

What I saw at the LA Auto Show gives me hope for humanity
Mach-E Reveal At 2019 LA Auto Show

Throw your gaze in any direction under the glaring stage lights at the Los Angeles Auto Show and your eyes will land on the newest and greatest wares of every major (and some not so major) automobile manufacturer this world has to offer. The LA Auto Show has become the premier event to unveil new models for the United States market, usurping even the Detroit Auto Show, despite the former's vicinity to the US's Big Three automakers. But the LA show is also, obviously, in Los Angeles, California. LA is the biggest car sales city, in the biggest car sales state, in the second largest car sales country. And Los Angeles has particular tastes as to what it wants from a new car.

LA used to be covered in smog. I mean, it still kind of is, but compared to how bad the air pollution was in the 70's, the air here now might as well be as clean as virgin snow. Angelenos have never really gotten over how bad the air was, and have embraced ecological causes of all sorts in a massive bear hug. We have to check our vehicle's emissions equipment every two years, we allow alternative fuel vehicles to use the carpool lane, and we passed tax credits for buying electric cars.
