Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling get animated in nostalgia-inducing 'The Nice Guys' trailer

The Nice Guys - Animated Short [HD]
Shane Black’s new film The Nice Guys is already packed with ’70s-era nostalgia, but a new trailer for the film released by Warner Bros. Pictures takes the retro vibe to the next level by giving the project an animated makeover in the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon style.

Basically, if you’re not already intrigued by The Nice Guys, this new trailer might do the trick — and it makes a pretty convincing argument for a cartoon version of the film, too.

Written and directed by Black, The Nice Guys features Ryan Gosling (Drive) and Russell Crowe (Gladiator) as a bumbling private investigator and a tough-as-nails enforcer, respectively, whose paths cross while searching for a missing woman. Before long, they find themselves caught up in a far-reaching conspiracy involving a dead porn star, a ruthless assassin, and a high-ranking official in the U.S. Department of Justice.

The film is the third big-screen feature directed by Black — who penned the screenplays for a long list of action films, including the Lethal Weapon films and The Last Boy Scout — after 2005’s critically praised Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and 2013’s superhero blockbuster Iron Man 3.

Along with Crowe and Gosling, the film’s cast also includes Angourie Rice (These Final Hours), Matt Bomer (White Collar), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Keith David (They Live), and Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential).

Already earning rave reviews, The Nice Guys hits theaters this weekend (May 20).

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.
