A new video featurette released by Sony Pictures offers a formal introduction to the new ECTO-1, as well as some fresh footage featuring the car and a behind-the-scenes look at the discussions and process that brought it to the film.
Like the original ECTO-1 that debuted in Ghostbusters, the new version is another retrofitted Cadillac hearse. However, while the first ECTO-1 was a 1959 model, which served as a hearse or ambulance, the new version is a modified 1984 model — a Cadillac Fleetwood station wagon, to be precise.
In the video, Feig and the film’s cast and creative team discuss the updated ECTO-1 and what it brings to the film.
Directed by Feig from a script penned by Feig and Katie Dippold, Ghostbusters stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as the quartet of paranormal investigators who become New York City’s reluctant heroes when a supernatural entity threatens Manhattan. Along with the four aforementioned leading ladies, the film’s cast also includes Thor franchise star Chris Hemsworth as the team’s receptionist and Andy Garcia as New York City’s mayor. Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, and Cecily Strong also play supporting roles, with SNL and Inside Amy Schumer writer Neil Casey playing the film’s unidentified villain.
New York City television news anchor Pat Kiernan will also appear in the film as — wait for it — a television news anchor.
Ghostbusters is scheduled to hit theaters July 15.
