Dodge’s HEMI-tastic Challenger and Charger Hellcats sure got a lot of attention when they hit the streets. The 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that gives both cars 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque was well liked across the board. This may have soured things a little for Ford fans who have a new Mustang to get excited about, but Roush has got their backs with a kit that’ll cause Dodge’s kitty to fill its litter box.
The phase 2 and Phase 3 kits are still being worked on, but the tuning house has posted a video of the 2015 Mustang hitting the dyno while sporting the a few of these upgrades. Starting off, the engine packs a stage 1 supercharger kit which itself features a few modifications to maximize the output. Throw in new fuel injectors, a fuel pump booster kit, and a few new calibrations, and the result is staggering.
They manage to take the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 and almost double the original 435 horsepower it generates, managing 800 hp at the crank. The dyno test shows that this Mustang now puts down 747 horses through the back wheels, as well ass 599 pound-feet of torque. The power is a great deal more than what Dodge delivers, but it doesn’t beat it in twist, however. Still, its enough grunt which should make any Dodge fans nervous.
Footage of cars on a rolling road is great and all, but we’re more eager to see a practical application. Sooner than later, someone’s going to get the new Roush Mustang along side the Hellcat, and we hope we’re at least within earshot of the resulting muscle car cacophony. Time will tell if the Hellcats will take down the mighty Mustang, or if Roush’s creation skins the cats.
