If you’ve been worried that the 2015 Mustang might be business as usual: don’t. Based upon some revealed production specs, it appears the all-new Mustang might be very exciting indeed.
A full 360-degree rendering found on Car and Driver reveals a very handsome pony car. As you can see from a few screen captures below, the 2015 Mustang still retains a bit of an old-school look but with a much more modern Ford touch.
The first thing you’ll notice is how much tighter and meaner-looking the headlights are. The 2015 Mustang just looks downright pissed. The hood also sports some louvers, which I hope are functional rather than simply cosmetic.
While these visual tweaks are exciting. It’s what’s under the hood that really has me going.
The base 2015 Mustang is now confirmed as a 305-horsepower V6, as per usual. Just above that will be a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder making 310 hp. And at the top of the normal Mustang range is the 420-hp 5.0 Coyote V8.
From there, Ford is likely to unveil a GT350 powered by the new “Voodoo” V8, which will be twin-turbocharged and make somewhere between 500-600 hp. Hopefully the GT350 be followed by a new Mach 1, which could sit at the top of the range with 650+ ponies.
As for transmissions, they, too, will remain the same for the time being. Six speed manuals and automatics are expected to be bolted to the range. Eventually, however, Ford is rumored to offer a 10-speed auto, hugely improving fuel efficiency.
While Ford hasn’t taken as many big leaps in design and power for 2015 as I had hoped, these specs look do promising. It seems, however, it’ll be a few years before we see the full Mustang lineup – with new transmission and range-topping models – that I would have liked to see right off the bat. This is Ford, after all, and change apparently still comes slowly.
