Is 900 horsepower the new 700 horsepower? It wasn’t so many years ago our jaws dropped over 500+ horsepower lightweight supercars like the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Then the Bugatti Veyron and its 1001 horsepower changed our understanding of hypercar power output.
With the recent unveiling of the Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1, both sporting some 900 horses, our understanding of supercar power has once again been transformed. Now, there’s another supercar coming down the pike to further normalize this formerly earth-shattering power.
It’s called the Vulcano and it’s from Italian coachbuilder Icona.
French designer Samuel Chuffart, who previously worked for at Nissan, Jaguar Land Rover, and Stile Bertone (according to MotorAuthority) has designed this one-off supercar in Shanghai.
Under the hood lies a V12 producing 900 horsepower, which will push the Vulcano to 124 mph in less than 10 seconds and onto a top speed of 217mph.
Why has the firm built a one-off, 900-horsepower supercar? To show off its design prowess.
Icona’s last concept, the Fuselage electric GT (above), which debuted at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, was a bit of a design disappointment. We’re hoping – based upon the Vulcano teaser – that this latest creation is a bit more striking.
All we can say until the veils come off in Shanghai is that the Vulcano has perhaps one of the best supercar names ever. It makes us wonder: why hasn’t anyone thought of that name before?
