For some though, like Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, the Huracan (pictured) is a bit too controlled unless pushed to the limit. According to ‘Hamster,’ the vehicle “has been designed on the road to feel tame and user-friendly. You don’t get that special Lamborghini mentalist feeling unless you are out here, with an entire airfield under your wheels.”
For those who agree, and want more of that break-loose “mentalist” feeling in the Huracan, we have good news.
A new report by Motoring suggests that Lamborghini is developing a hardcore, rear-wheel drive version of the Huracan to compete with the Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 675LT. The news originally came from the brand’s chief test driver, Giorgio Sanna, who said the car would be the successor to the track-focused Gallardo Superleggera. That means the trimmer, faster version could wear the ‘Super Light’ badge as well.
Lamborghini has built a two-wheel drive version of the Huracan before, the LP 620-2 Super Trofeo racecar. The vehicle lost some 300 pounds and gained 18 hp in Super Trofeo guise, so you can expect some of its tamer elements to show up in the new, road-going variant.
The brand is reportedly planning a second RWD version of the Huracan as well called the LP 610-2, which will likely be a cheaper, entry-level iterant with two fewer drive wheels. The official announcement of both cars is expected to come sometime next year.
