A new model lineup based around the 2014 MINI Cooper is already unfurling, a first-ever four-door model on the way. The best is yet to come, though.
That’s because the next MINI John Cooper Works is still waiting in the wings. Traditionally the sportiest mainstream MINI model, the JCW shouldn’t disappoint when it finally makes an appearance.
According to a new report from Autocar, the next JCW will sport a 230 horsepower engine, providing significantly more power than the previous model’s 208 ponies.
Much of that increase will likely be due to displacement. The JCW is expected to switch from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine to the 2.0-liter unit from the new MINI Cooper S. Expect six-speed manual or automatic transmission choices.
The rest of the car will probably resemble the MINI John Cooper Works Concept that debuted back in January at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, with more-aggressive styling and loud graphics to advertise its performance potential.
The production version should debut sometime next year, and be followed by many more MINI variants. They probably won’t be as cool, though.
