Audi is gearing up for the launch of its A3 sedan in the U.S. next year with a special informal revealing at the New York Auto Show.
The A3 sedan, which will make its official debut at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show in late April, is targeted at generation X and Y market. The car takes direct aim at vehicles like BMW 3 Series, Infiniti G37 and the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.
Audi hasn’t announced any specifications on the A3 sedan, but it will likely feature a choice of two 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines, one gasoline and one diesel-fueled. There have been reports that a hybrid and an electric-powered model might also be featured in the lineup.
Expect a high-performance A3 to follow soon behind as well.
The A3 sedan concept (pictured above), unveiled at last year’s Geneva Auto Show, featured a 400 plus horsepower 5-cylinder engine under the hood. I can’t imagine Audi would tease us with that kind of power and not add a high-performance model to the line-up − especially considering that most of its competitors in the segment have one in their lineup.
Pricing for the A3 sedan will be below the A4, which starts at around $34, 000 for the base model.
The new CLA, which arrives at U.S. dealerships in September 2013, will start with a base price of $30,825, including a $925 destination charge.
