Well, that’s it. Mercedes has officially said goodbye to fuddy-duddy bodylines.
As you can see, exterior images of the all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class have finally hit the web. And the leaked images show a very spectacular mid-size sedan indeed.
Just last week, we saw some leaked images of the new interior and we were immediately sold on the new C. Save a huge exterior blunder, I was ready to throw my hands in the air and proclaim the new C-Class a success. Delightfully, the austere men and women at Mercedes’ design studio haven’t let us down.
Based upon the new, rear-wheel drive W205 Mercedes chassis shared with the new S-Class and the new E-Class, the C gets receives much more dynamic lines and a bit longer body to separate it further from the all-new, entry-level CLA-Class.
The images were let slip by Spanish blog site Diariomotor and show a C that is 90 mm longer than the current C and, ironically, 90 percent better looking.
While these images show only the sedan model, Autocar reports that the new 2015 C will be offered in a liftback body style, in line with the BMW 3 Series GT. While I’m not a big fan of the taller liftback crossover thingies, this C-Class is so striking that should Merc put out a C-Class liftback, I might actually find myself becoming fond of the breed.
As I have mentioned in previous Mercedes coverage, the German brand is in the midst of a push to skew toward a younger audience with techier cars and jauntier bodylines. While I’ve not driven the new C, from a visual standpoint, I think the Germans have knocked it out of the park.
If Merc really wants to scare away the old codgers, though, it ought eliminate the geriatric gold paint options. I doubt, however, it’s ready to make that big a leap.
The 2015 C-Class is expected to be officially unveiled next January at the Detroit Auto Show. More official production information is likely to leak well before then so be sure to check back.
