Tesla Model S(aleen): Performance brand Saleen to offer tuned Tesla Model S

Truthfully, we still don’t know much about this project, but we’re thrilled just thinking about it.

Monstrous muscle car tuner Saleen recently announced its plans to dive into the EV game, starting with the Tesla Model S. We’ve already seen a factory Model S scorch the new Chevy Corvette Stingray on the drag strip, so there’s no telling what Saleen will been able to wring out of the electric sports sedan.

Some of the pony car faithful have raised their eyebrows to the company’s venture into EV territory, but CEO Steve Saleen feels confident about the new direction for the brand.

“Tesla’s values are not a departure from our core values of elite power, style, and performance. I have admired their craftsmanship,” added Saleen. “And now with our upcoming entry into the electric car market with a revolutionary design all our own, we share a desire to also produce vehicles that are not dependent on fossil fuels and which accomplish this fuel independence with a tremendous assemblage of grace and technology.”

That bit about Saleen-ifying the Model S design has us particularly excited to see what happens next.

Released in 2012, the Model S is the oldest member of the Tesla range. It's about to look a lot newer than its age suggests thanks to a much-needed update that brings a fully redesigned interior and a lot more power.

Tesla cuts price of touchscreen upgrade by $1,000 amid recall pressure

A massive 17-inch touchscreen is one of the signature features of the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X electric cars. Known as the media control unit (MCU), it's been pushed to its limits by the various new features Tesla has added over the years, so Tesla started offering an upgrade for older cars last year -- and it just cut the price of that upgrade by $1,000.

The price of the upgrade has dropped from $2,500 to $1,500 — with no explanation from Tesla. The listed price on the company's website was simply changed, according to Electrek. The upgrade switches out the MCU in older Model S and Model X electric cars with a more powerful version that can handle newer software features and is aimed at providing better touchscreen response as well.

Tesla has launched two new variants of its Model Y electric crossover — one with more seats, and another with shorter range but a friendlier price tag.

First up, the seven-seat option, which Tesla added to its website in recent days. The additional seats give the vehicle a three-row configuration and will set you back an extra $3,000. The third row includes USB-C charging ports, while the second row offers adjustable seatbacks. You can also fold down the second and third rows for maximum storage space.
