The Tesla light show wishes you a Merry Christmas

The Tesla Model X is more than a fast SUV — it’s a Christmas spectacular in and of itself. In yet another example of brilliant brand marketing, Tesla produced a YouTube video that shows the highly anticipated car performing a three-minute light show that’s sure to put your neighbors’ displays to shame (unless you live in Dyker Heights or something).

As the latest vehicle to join the Tesla family, the Model X boasts some pretty impressive specs, lights aside. It is able to reach a top speed of 155 mph and goes from 0 to 60 mph in a remarkable 3.2 seconds (that is, if you get the P90D Performance model with the “Ludicrous Speed Upgrade”). One thing’s for sure — this is not your mom’s minivan — it’s the SUV of the future.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, CEO Elon Musk called the delightful display a “Model Xmas show,” and noted, “This is being done by the car itself (no special mods) & will be onboard as an Easter egg.” So if you elect to spend the $80,000 or so Tesla will charge you for the vehicle, you will be able to amaze jealous neighbors with synchronized lights and accompanying music any time you want.

Currently, the cars are synced to Wizards in Winter by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Though no one has revealed just how new owners will be able to activate the so-called Easter egg (or if they can choose other songs), the lights are certainly a cherry  on top of an already delightful automotive sundae.

Tesla Model Y vs. Nissan Ariya: Can Tesla take out Nissan’s electric crossover?
Front three quarter view of the 2023 Nissan Ariya.

Nissan has been a little slow to the punch when it comes to electrification (besides the Leaf, of course). But now, it’s finally starting to electrify its lineup with the new Nissan Ariya. The Ariya is a crossover similar in size to the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Kia EV6, and, of course, the Tesla Model Y.

If you’re in the market for a new electric car, you might be wondering whether you should go for the now-everywhere Tesla Model Y or stick with the newer Nissan Ariya. Both cars are seemingly more tech-focused, however, while the Ariya builds on Nissan’s decades of experience in the automotive industry, the Model Y takes a still-fresh approach to its car, at least compared to the competition.
