This December, the crown jewel of the modern Ferrari lineup, LaFerrari, will spawn an even more hardcore LaFerrari XX variant.
Top Gear got the scoop first from company insiders, and the thoroughbred hypercar will reportedly produce a whopping 1,050 horsepower from its hybrid powertrain, meaning the once rumored F1-derived turbo V6 is off the table.
The extra 100 ponies come courtesy of a retuned V12 (the electric motors are unaltered), and with the additional enhancements that come with the XX package, this car will surely be nothing less than legendary on tarmac.
Like the Enzo-based FXX, expect the track-only LaFerrari to wear an array of F1-sourced tech to boost performance to truly extraordinary levels. That will likely include an aero kit straight off of a stealth bomber, spartan interior, revamped gearbox, slick rubber, and countless other racing goodies.
The XX designation also means that owners won’t get to take this space age Ferrari home with them. After track day ends, company engineers recover the car and whisk it back to a top-secret lab back to for maintenance, where men in white coats prep the vehicle for its next track assault.
Pricing was not disclosed for the car, but given the FXX’s base of $2.1 million and the McLaren P1 GTR’s price of $3.6 million, it’s a fair assumption that the top-end LaFerrari will cost more money than most of us will ever see.
The XX will reportedly make its debut at Ferrari’s ‘Finali Moondiali’ event in Abu Dhabi this December.
Normally, this is where we’d fantasize about the XX engaging in formal hypercar combat with McLaren’s top dog, the 986-hp P1 GTR, but unfortunately the track-only Italian does not qualify for any existing race series.
That doesn’t mean these two won’t meet on some track day leaderboard or digital showdown someday, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground: this is definitely the type of car you’ll hear coming.
