Danish Zenvo ST1 supercar might be impossible to drive, but it’s still awesome

The Danes’ first attempt at a supercar, the Zenvo ST1, has been in the news a lot recently. Unfortunately for Zenvo, it hasn’t been the sort of attention that proves all press is good press. You see the ST1 not only caught fire on the set of Top Gear, it also failed to go faster than a BMW M5 on a wet track. But despite all that, it’s not all bad news for the Zenvo ST1 because a new video gives us a close look at the car. And frankly its quite impressive.

Zenvo is trying to break into the independent supercar market, which probably accounts for fewer than 100 cars sold per year. That means that you need to stand out to fit in, and fortunately the Zenvo does that. Most supercars feature aggressive styling. The Koenigsegg Agera, for instance, looks like it would happily eat your puppy. But the Zenvo STI takes aggressive styling to a whole new level; it would murder a whole zoo full of baby giraffes just for kicks.

It goes without saying that I love it. With broad shoulders and headlights like slits, the ST1 looks like a cybernetic jaguar about to pounce. It really has just the right combination of futuristic angles and a classic supine sports car posture.

Despite the slow time at the Top Gear track, don’t think the styling is writing checks the car can’t cash. The ST1 name comes from the fact that this car’s engine has booth a supercharger and a turbocharger, just like a WWII fighter plane. It also has that sort of power, 1,104 horsepower and 1,054 pound feet of torque to be exact. That is good for 0 to 60 in 3.0 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 233 mph.

Thankfully you can even get the Zenvo with a regular manual transmission, a rarity in supercars these days. That’s not the only old-school aspect of the car either. It’s rear drive, while the body is made from high-tech composite the chassis is tube steel. Still, though, the car weighs in at under 3,000 pounds, which promises for some good handling.

What we saw on Top Gear was someone trying to wrangle a rear drive car with more power than a soviet nuke sub on a track with standing water – an endeavor that rarely goes well – and the teething problems of a brand new car company.

As you can see on the video, the interior looks great, but it also doesn’t look as refined as its competitors, and the same seems to be true of some of the dynamics. With a price over $1 million, those faults are hard to forgive. But seeing a Zenvo ST1 should be enough to remind you not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, particularly when that baby is the love child of Usain Bolt and Darth Vader.

The Kia EV3 could be the cheap electric SUV we’ve been waiting for
White Kia EV3

The Kia EV9 was already one of the cheapest ways to get an electric SUV, but now the company is taking things to the next level. After teasing the Kia EV3 last year, the car is now official.

The EV3 is built to be a slightly smaller, cheaper version of the EV9 -- following the path of the Rivian R2, which arrived after the Rivian R1S. It's certainly not as technologically advanced as the EV9, but it still looks unmistakably like a modern Kia, and is clearly a sibling of the larger SUV. On the outside, the vehicle has the same split taillights and very similar Tiger Face front. But it is quite a bit smaller. The vehicle will be available in nine finishes -- however only "Aventurine Green" and "Terracotta" are being announced right now.

White Kia EV3

Kia is on a roll. Hot on the heels of the success of the Kia EV6 and EV9, the company is already announcing what could be its cheapest electric vehicle yet -- the Kia EV3.

The Kia EV line seems to follow the rule of lower numbers indicating a lower price — and if so, the EV3 will end up being the cheapest electric car Kia has released to date. That, however, thankfully doesn’t mean that the EV3 will be a low-end car — it just means that Kia may be pushing the boundaries on electric car pricing.

Kia EV3 vs Tesla Model Y: Can Kia’s new entry-level car take on Tesla?
White Kia EV3

The Kia EV3 is finally coming, and it could well end up being the best small-size electric SUV to buy when it finally rolls out. But there's another small-size electric car that's currently one of the most popular vehicles out there -- the Tesla Model Y.

How does the Kia EV3 compare with the Tesla Model Y? And is one vehicle actually better than the other? We put the Kia EV3 and the Tesla Model Y head-to-head to find out.
Design
The design of the Kia EV3 is very different than that of the Model Y, though they're both reasonably good-looking vehicles.
