Fashionistas have New York Fashion week, car nuts have the Detroit Auto Show, and tech enthusiasts have the International Consumer Electronics in Las Vegas.
But you don’t have to pilot drones or develop Android apps in your spare time to appreciate the shiny stuff bedecking 2.2 million (yes, million) square feet of convention space right now. From monolithic TVs that literally bend like playing cards on demand, to sci-fi devices that can scan any material and tell you what it is, CES has it all.
Which makes the job of finding the best of the best a bit like finding the brightest neon, most obnoxious club or cheesiest theme hotel in Vegas … but a lot more fun. For the second year in a row, Digital Trends dispatched a crack team of 18 editorial staffers to Las Vegas to fan out, get grabby with gadgets, and try everything we could. And we’ve sifted out the best of everything for our Top Tech of CES 2015 awards.
Looking for highlights from all the hottest product categories? Look no further. We hand-picked four nominees in every category based on a combination of innovation, practicality, and just plain “wow” factor. And when there weren’t four that floored us, we picked three, because who needs fluff?
Check our nominees in every category below, and make sure to return Thursday morning when we reveal the winners in every category, and what it was about each incredible gadget that sealed its supremacy this year. Plus, we’ll award one outstanding product our coveted Best in Show award.
CES is always flooded with new gaming laptops, but this year felt a bit different. Like the best laptops of CES as a whole, the updates to gaming laptops this year focused more on improved displays and new designs than just updated internals.
Here are the four gaming laptops I saw this year that really got me excited to spend more time with them.
ROG Zephyrus G14
The best and most exciting laptops I saw at CES 2024
CES is definitely a laptop show. In previous years, we'd get whole swaths of gaming laptops or laptop manufacturers taking risks with designs. At CES 2024, many of our favorite laptops got redesigned, whether it was slightly tweaking the formula or opting for a radical new direction.
So, ignore all the hubbub about AI and just take a gander at these gorgeous and innovative new laptops, which are the best that CES 2024 has to offer.
The Kia EV3 could be the cheap electric SUV we’ve been waiting for
The Kia EV9 was already one of the cheapest ways to get an electric SUV, but now the company is taking things to the next level. After teasing the Kia EV3 last year, the car is now official.
The EV3 is built to be a slightly smaller, cheaper version of the EV9 -- following the path of the Rivian R2, which arrived after the Rivian R1S. It's certainly not as technologically advanced as the EV9, but it still looks unmistakably like a modern Kia, and is clearly a sibling of the larger SUV. On the outside, the vehicle has the same split taillights and very similar Tiger Face front. But it is quite a bit smaller. The vehicle will be available in nine finishes -- however only "Aventurine Green" and "Terracotta" are being announced right now.
