Acer has embraced the Chromebook more than almost any other company, and it seems like the company isn’t planning on slowing down with Chromebook releases.

In fact, a new leak shows off Acer’s next Chromebook, set to be the company’s first 14-inch version, featuring an Intel Celeron N3050 processor. The leak was spotted by Notebook Italia, which identified the computer in an FCC filing. The computer has also been spotted in some online store listings.

Apart from the Celeron N3050 processor, which is part of Intel’s entry-level Braswell family and has a speed of up to 2.16GHz, the computer is said to include 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The device will also offer an “HD” display, which means it will probably have a resolution of 1,366 x 786 pixels, given the fact that most of the other specs are fairly entry-level.

Of course, 32GB of storage doesn’t sound like much, however Chromebooks feature Google’s Chrome OS, which offers mostly Web-based apps such as Google Docs and Google Play Music. Basically, Chromebooks are great for someone constantly connected to the Internet, but perhaps not so great for someone who needs a lot of space for offline storage.

Acer has released a number of Chromebook models over the past few years, and its lineup includes 11-inch, 13-inch, and 15-inch models. The computers generally offer entry-level Intel processors, and range in price from $180 to $500, so expect the new computer to sit somewhere in that range, although it will likely be closer to the $500 mark.

Based on the specs, it seems like the computer will be squarely aimed at those who want a larger screen for things like watching movies, but don’t necessarily need a high-performance computer or don’t want to shell out the cash that might be needed to buy one.

Acer gets serious about 14-inch gaming laptops
Somebody playing a game on Acer Nitro 16

The 14-inch category of gaming notebooks is getting quite the traction. We recently saw the HP Omen Transcend 14, the company’s first attempt at making a compact yet premium gaming laptop, and a redesign of the popular Zephyrus G14 from Asus. Now, Acer is bringing two new models under its Predator and Nitro brandings.

The new Nitro 14 will be available with the latest AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS or the Ryzen 5 8645HS, which are the same chips as last year but with some added AI capabilities. The 14.5-inch display uses an IPS panel, and customers can choose between either a 1200p and a 1600p resolution model, both of which are capable of 100% sRGB coverage and a 120Hz refresh rate.

A dangerous new jailbreak for AI chatbots was just discovered
the side of a Microsoft building

Microsoft has released more details about a troubling new generative AI jailbreak technique it has discovered, called "Skeleton Key." Using this prompt injection method, malicious users can effectively bypass a chatbot's safety guardrails, the security features that keeps ChatGPT from going full Taye.

Skeleton Key is an example of a prompt injection or prompt engineering attack. It's a multi-turn strategy designed to essentially convince an AI model to ignore its ingrained safety guardrails, "[causing] the system to violate its operators’ policies, make decisions unduly influenced by a user, or execute malicious instructions," Mark Russinovich, CTO of Microsoft Azure, wrote in the announcement.
