Amazon cuts the price on Fire HD 8 Tablet and Show Mode charging dock bundle

Amazon cut the price in its Labor Day Sale for an

appealing tablet deal

that bundles the Fire HD 8 with a Show Mode charging dock. When you put the tablet in the charging dock, it automatically switches to Show Mode and transforms into a smart home display with full Alexa functionality.

The Fire HD 8 Tablet runs on a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. You can also add a microSD card for additional storage up to 400 GB. The tablet runs up to 10 hours per battery charge and uses dual-band Wi-Fi for a fast, reliable connection. The Fire HD 8’s 1,280 x 800 8-inch display creates a bright, vivid image. Dolby Atmos audio with dual internal stereo speakers translates into enjoyable listening. Front and rear 2MP cameras can capture still shots and 720 HD video.

Like all newer Fire Tablets, the HD 8 supports hands-free Alexa requests for information, to access entertainment, and control smart home devices. When you switch the Fire HD 8 to Show Mode, which does not require the dock in this bundle, the tablet transforms into a fully Alexa-compatible smart display. You can make video calls in Show Mode, drop in on family and friends for quick conversations or status checks, and view live video streams from Alexa-compatible smart home security cameras.

So you don’t need the Show Mode Charging Dock to charge the Fire HD 8 Tablet or to switch to Show Mode. However, when you put the tablet on the dock, it automatically makes the switch with no settings changes. Most people use smart displays in fixed locations but move a tablet. Automatic mode switching comes in handy, so you always have the device in the mode you prefer. You can still manually switch modes, whether the tablet is docked or undocked, but if you use the Show Mode Charging Dock, you’ll also lessen your chances of finding the tablet with little or no remaining battery life.

Normally priced $120 if purchased separately, the Fire HD 8 Tablet and Show Mode Charging Dock bundle is $100 during this Labor Day sale. If you want a dual-purpose smart device that’s both a high-powered tablet and an Alexa-compatible smart display, take advantage of this seldom discounted bundle price. Note that this deal is available only with the black Fire HD 8 Tablet, not the yellow, red, or blue versions.

Apple MacBook Pro 16 downward view showing keyboard and speaker.

There are some great machines in the 15-inch laptop category, which has recently been stretched to include the more common 16-inch laptop. The best among them is the Apple MacBook Pro 16, which offers fast performance for tasks like video editing and the longest battery life.

The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16 is aimed not only at other 16-inch Windows laptops but also at the MacBook Pro 16. It offers many of the same benefits but at a lower price. Can it take a place at the top?

How to set an ‘Out of Office’ message in Microsoft Teams
Person using Windows 11 laptop on their lap by the window.

Many people use Microsoft Teams regularly to communicate with colleagues both inside of the office and remotely. It is considered one of the most efficient ways to ensure you can stay in contact with the people on your team, but what if you need to let people know you’re not readily available? Microsoft Teams has a method for you to set up an "Out of Office" status for your profile to let staff members know when you’ll be gone for the afternoon, for several days on vacation, or for an extended period.
Where do I go to set up my ‘Out of Office’ status for Teams?
It is important to note that your Microsoft Teams and Outlook calendars are synced. This includes your out-of-office status and automatic replies. So, whatever you set up in Microsoft Teams will reflect in Outlook. Similarly, you can set up your out-of-office status in Outlook, and it will be reflected in Teams; however, the former has a more straightforward instruction.

First, you can click on your profile icon in Teams and go directly to Schedule an out of office, as a shortcut. This will take you to the settings area where you can proceed. You can also click the three-dot icon next to your profile icon, then go to Settings > General, then scroll down to the bottom of the page. There, you'll find out-of-office settings and click Schedule.
