Asus has released the latest model of its Chromebox computer, upping its specs from the previous version while maintaining its affordable price point. Notably, it’s the first Chromebox from the company to boast a fifth-generation Intel Core processor.

The first Chromeboxes were released in 2012 as an alternative to Google’s portable Chromebook line. Samsung was the first manufacturer to release a system under this branding, but Asus would be quick to follow with a pair of computers that launched in the spring of 2014.

Asus’ latest Chromebox offering is being labelled as the CN62, and offers several enticing improvements over its predecessors. While the system maintains the same form factor and physical size, the upgraded processor is one of many tangible enhancements that look poised to make the device a compelling rig for anyone on a budget.

Intel HD 5500 graphics, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage make for a system that’s more than capable of handling the basic tasks expected of this sort of computer. Meanwhile, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, and support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi should ensure that connectivity is taken care of.

While these specs are certainly a step up from previous models, it’s interesting to see that Asus has opted for a Broadwell processor rather than a Skylake chip, as noted by Liliputing. However, this is likely to be one of the compromises the company had to make to reach the desired price point for the system.

The Asus Chromebox CN62 is set to retail for just $199, and at that price it’s something of an alluring prospect. It may not be a high-end gaming PC, but the system offers a great deal of functionality for that relatively modest sum, and it’s likely to carve out its own niche among consumers as a result.

Intel Rocket Lake: Everything you need to know about the 11th-gen processors
A box for the Intel Core i9-11900K,

Intel’s 11th-generation Rocket Lake desktop CPUs are Team Blue's answer to AMD's Zen 3 chips, and they appear to be an interesting bridge between technologies as Intel continues to iterate on its 14nm process. They are the follow-up to last year's 10th-gen Comet Lake chips, which officially debuted in the spring.

All the final specs and features have been been officially dropped, including price and potential performance. All that's left is to verify Intel's claims with an independent review ourselves. But until then, here's everything you need to know about Intel's latest processors.

Intel unveils final specs and pricing for its new 11th-gen Rocket Lake-S chips
Intel Core i9-11900K

Intel's 11th-gen Rocket Lake-S chips are finally crossing the finish line as the latest desktop chips finally go on sale starting March 18. This includes the entire lineup of Core i9, Core i7, Core i5, and Core i3 processors, as well as the typical variants, such as overclockable configurations (K-series), those without integrated graphics (F-series), and small form factor options (T-series).

As a reminder, these 11th-gen chips are the company's very last 14nm chips and mark the end of a long journey for Intel as it moves to 10nm. Confusingly, 11th-gen Tiger Lake laptop chips are already using the newer 10nm node, outside of the higher-TDP chips used in gaming laptops or creator-based models.
