CDW: Small Businesses Adopting Vista Faster

A new report published last week by computer reseller CDW finds that nearly half of all businesses surveyed are in some phase of updating their computer systems to Windows Vista, but small businesses are generally ahead of the pack, leading both higher education and medium- to large-sized businesses. The report is the third in a series of surveys CDW is conducting on Vista adoption.

The survey was conducted in November 2007 by Walker Information on behalf of CDW, and surveyed 772 IT “decision makers” within various organizations. According to the results, 48 percent of organizations surveyed are in the process of evaluating and testing Windows Vista, which is a significant increase over a previous survey which found only 29 percent of organizations were looking at Vista in February 2007. Further, about 35 percent of companies had already rolled out WIndows Vista by November, compared to just 12 percent last February.

Among businesses either using or testing Vista, some 53 percent were small businesses. In comparison, only 49 percent of higher education organizations said they were evaluating Windows Vista, and 48 percent of medium- to large-sized businesses were looking at Vista.
