Responding to reports in the Wall Street Journal and other sources, computer maker Dell says it plans to continue producing gaming systems in its XPS computer line—even as it “invests like crazy” in its boutique subsidiary Alienware, which focuses on high-performance and gaming systems.
“We love gamers. We love gaming. And much like we want to win every game we play, we want to lead in this market,” wrote Dell spokesperson Ann B. Camden in the Direct2Dell blog. So that’s why we’re investing so much in the gaming systems of the future—we want those on an Alienware or XPS to reign supreme.”
Although Dell readily acknowledges that the XPS brand includes systems that aren’t targeted at gamers, Camden specifically promised refreshes to the XPS M1730 gaming notebook, XPS 630 gaming desktop, and XPS 730 series. Althought she did not outline any future gaming sytems planned for the XPS line, she said Dell plans to expand its focus on Alienware product development and eventually promote it as the company’s premiere gaming platform.
