As New York Fashion Week gets into full swing, catwalk shows and new collections would seem to be the order of the day. However, this year’s installment of the 70-year tradition saw an eye-catching piece of hardware unveiled by Dell; a special edition of its XPS 13 notebook that’s just as chic as any clothing on show.
Dell and Microsoft partnered with noteworthy New York design house Opening Ceremony to officially launch the special edition laptop on Sunday. The golden XPS 13 was on hand to gilt the Opening Ceremony runway show and the ensuing after-party.
“Opening Ceremony’s founders, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, are both Dell users and with gold being a central theme of their new line, it made for a perfect opportunity to debut the Dell XPS Gold as well as support our most fashionable customers.” said Lauren Mauro, Dell PR Manager. “We felt NYFW was the perfect venue.”
We first saw this luxurious take on the XPS 13 when it was exhibited at CES 2016 last month. In keeping with the high-end finish on its outer casing, the special edition laptop is outfitted with some serious horsepower under the hood — looks certainly aren’t everything when it comes to top-tier hardware.
An Intel Core i7 Skylake CPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage space contribute to the superior list of specifications that’s been assembled for the golden XPS 13. However, the highlight of the entire package might be its 13.3-inch, 3,200 x 1,800 QHD+ display, which was highly praised in the Digital Trends review of the standard XPS 13, and set to be even more capable thanks to the new addition of Intel Iris graphics.
Pitched by Dell as the smallest 13-inch laptop on the planet, the XPS 13 certainly has plenty going for it. It’s a highly practical, lightweight notebook that offers plenty of muscle in its premium configurations — and its already attractive physical design does look rather arresting in its new gold color scheme.
However, a luxury item like this has to carry an appropriately luxurious price tag. The golden XPS 13 will be available for the princely sum of $1,700. More information on the device is available on the Dell website.
