Some vendors may enlist name designers to give their products some stature, but storage and memory vendor Edge Tech Corporation figures it can handle making functional yet aesthetically-appealing hard drives all on its own. At least, that’s the theory behind the new 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch additions to the company’s DiskGo external hard drives, which offer capacities up to 1 TB and a selection of white, black, silver, and red casings.
At the 1 TB level, sadly, only one pale color option is available. But what the DiskGO 3.5-inch Portable Hard Drive with Quad Interface lacks in color it makes up for in interface and capacity, sporting eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0 connectivity, as well as capacities ranging from 160 GB for 1 TB. The 1 TB version runs $634.95, while the 160 GB version is just $174.95; all sport 7,200 rpm drives.
The 3.5-inch DiskGo drives with color options are also available with USB 2.0 or combined USB 2.0/FireWire 400 connectivity. Capacities range from 80 GB ($89.95 USB-only, $104.95 combo) all the way to 750 GB ($374.95 USB-only, $379.95 combo). The colorful 2.5-inch versions of the DiskGo feature capacities of 40 GB ($94.06) to 160 GB ($169.95), and a plain white version with Migo technology is also available, enabling users to transfer their PC environment (including email, settings, preferences, bookmarks, shortcuts, and backgrounds) between Windows computers.
