eMachines Intros Stylish, Inexpensive All-in-One

Low-cost PC maker eMachines has introduced its new EZ1601-01 all-in-one computer, combining a bit of the look of an Apple iMac with the price tag of a netbook portable computer. And the resemblance to a netbook doesn’t stop with the price: while the EX1601-01 sports an 18.5-inch display, it also touts a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processors, Windows XP, and 1 GB of RAM.

"The eMachines EZ1601-01 all-in-one PC proves style doesn’t have to come at a price premium," said eMachines’ senior manager for desktop products Glenn Jystad, in a statement. "It also shows that capabilities and functionality don’t have to be sacrificed at the expense of great design."

eMachines is aiming the EX1601-01 at users with basic computing needs that don’t necessarily require heavy computing power: basic Web surfing and email, along with music, photos, and video. The computer is designed to work well in any room, including kitchens, spare bedrooms, dens, or dorm rooms.

The EX1601-01 sports an 18.5-inch 1,366 by 768-pixel display with a 5ms response time, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and 250 cd/m² of brightness. The system runs on the aforementioned 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor—and uses Intel 945GSE graphics—and comes with 1 GB of RAM. The system also sports a 160 GB hard drive, an 8× DVD±RW SuperMulti DL drive, a multi-in-one media card reader, 5 USB 2.0 ports (three in back, two in front), and built-in speakers. The unit is available in black, with green LED lighting and silver trim; it measures just 2.2 inches deep.

The EX1601-01 is available now at selected retailers at prices starting at $399.99.
