Fujitsu may not be a big name in the U.S. computer marketplace, but the company is a leading computer manufacturer worldwide and sometimes brings products to the North American market which stand up to some scrutiny. The company’s latest notebook offering is the LifeBook S2210, a sleek 4 pound notebook which boasts either a DVD/CD Combo drive or dual layer DVD burner, a 13.3-inch LCD display, an ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics controller (with up to 256 MB of video memory), 40 to 100 GB of hard drive storage, and anywhere from 512 to to 2 GB of RAM (maxing out at 4 GB)—all powered by a 1.6 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2. At pre-configured prices ranging from $1,299 to $1,979, the LifeBook S2210 offers an interesting combination of features and portability.
Also on board the LifeBook S2210s: three USB 2.0 ports, a mini S-Video output, external video, gigabit ethernet, a four-pin IEEE 1394 port, support for Memory Stick Pro/SD media cards, one Type I/II PCMCIA slot, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, an optional biometric fingerprint reader, and a Trusted Platform Module. Power users will want to check out the optional port replicator which busts out serial, parallel, DVI-D, and PS/2 ports along with four USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet pass-thru, a security lock, and DC power. Users can swap out the optical drive for a second battery; Fujitsu says a single six-cell battery should offer about 2.5 hours of operation, while a dual battery setup will run up to 4.5 hours.
