Gateway NV Series Notebooks Feature One-Touch Backups

Gateway NV Series Notebooks Feature One-Touch Backups

Computer maker Gateway has taken the lid off its new NV series of notebook computers, aiming to create a mainstream notebook that appeals both to media-focused consumers as well as students and professionals who need both pizazz and performance in an affordable notebook system. And—midnful that folks are trusting more and more data to their portable computers—the systems feature a dedicated one-touch MyBackup function to make sure documents, media, and files can reliably and consistently be backed up in case disaster strikes.

“The need to back-up data has never been greater, since consumers have a greater quantity of important digital content than ever before—such as photos and video,” said Ray Sawall, senior product marketing manager for Gateway. “With the Gateway NV notebook, customers have the MyBackup Button to conveniently protect their precious data to make sure it’s available to enjoy and share more readily with friends, family, and online via social networks like Facebook and MySpace.”

The MyBackup function copies a user’s documents, media, data, and important files to another location, such as a USB drive, external hard drive, or even another partition on the same disk (although that’s not the best idea from a data recovery standpoint: if a hard drive fails, it’ll often take the backup partition with it). The MyBackup function can be set to run on a schedule so users can have backups performed automatically; users can also trigger a backup at any time using the MyBackup button.

In terms of specs, the NV series sport a 15.6-inch 1,366 by 768-pixel LED-backlit LCD display, 4 GB of RAM, and a 320 GB hard drive, along with an integrated Web cam, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless networking, a digital media card reader, a Super Multi dual-layer DVD burner, along with HDMI output, four USB 2.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, and a VGA port. Two models are currently in the series: the NV5214u sports an AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-64 dual core processor running at 2.1 GHz and ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics; the NV5807u offers an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.1 GHz and Intel GMA 4500HD graphics. Both systems come with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed.

Pricing on the AMD-based NV5214u starts at $499.99 and will be available at Best Buy, while suggested pricing on the NV5807u starts at $599.99 and will be available through Micro Center. Both models will be available in cherry red, midnight blue, coffee brown, and nightsky black.

I love the MacBook Pro, but this Windows laptop came surprisingly close
Apple MacBook Pro 16 downward view showing keyboard and speaker.

There are some great machines in the 15-inch laptop category, which has recently been stretched to include the more common 16-inch laptop. The best among them is the Apple MacBook Pro 16, which offers fast performance for tasks like video editing and the longest battery life.

The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16 is aimed not only at other 16-inch Windows laptops but also at the MacBook Pro 16. It offers many of the same benefits but at a lower price. Can it take a place at the top?

How to set an ‘Out of Office’ message in Microsoft Teams
Person using Windows 11 laptop on their lap by the window.

Many people use Microsoft Teams regularly to communicate with colleagues both inside of the office and remotely. It is considered one of the most efficient ways to ensure you can stay in contact with the people on your team, but what if you need to let people know you’re not readily available? Microsoft Teams has a method for you to set up an "Out of Office" status for your profile to let staff members know when you’ll be gone for the afternoon, for several days on vacation, or for an extended period.
Where do I go to set up my ‘Out of Office’ status for Teams?
It is important to note that your Microsoft Teams and Outlook calendars are synced. This includes your out-of-office status and automatic replies. So, whatever you set up in Microsoft Teams will reflect in Outlook. Similarly, you can set up your out-of-office status in Outlook, and it will be reflected in Teams; however, the former has a more straightforward instruction.

First, you can click on your profile icon in Teams and go directly to Schedule an out of office, as a shortcut. This will take you to the settings area where you can proceed. You can also click the three-dot icon next to your profile icon, then go to Settings > General, then scroll down to the bottom of the page. There, you'll find out-of-office settings and click Schedule.
