Sometimes you don’t need a gaming rig, a multimedia machine, or a bulletproof business machine. You just need a screen with a mouse to browse Reddit, reply to emails, and maybe even hold the family photo collection. Oh, and one that won’t embarrass you sitting in the living room. For those moments, Gateway’s new One ZX4270 should probably be on your radar.
The company’s latest all-in-one model, unveiled on Thursday, probably won’t raise many eyebrows based on specs alone, but the price will. At $399, it’s a competent desktop computer for the price of a tablet.
Four hundred bucks buys you a 19.5-inch, 1600 x 900 display, 4GB of RAM, up to a 750GB hard drive, and AMD’s Vision A4 5000 processor. No, AMD’s latest chips are no all-stars beside their Intel peers, but AMD’s Radeon HD 8300 should deliver enough pep for smooth multimedia playback and maybe even some light gaming.
The black, rounded-edge bezel is nothing special, but at only 2.13 inches deep, and just over a foot tall, it’s reasonably compact and should fit wherever you have some spare table space and an outlet.
You’ll also find the usual accoutrements including a 1080p webcam, card reader, two USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0, an included keyboard and mouse, and even an optical drive for all the DVDs you’ve been saving from last decade.
Gateway’s ZX4270 will go on sale later in October starting at $399.
