Today HP announced a new line of 4K and 5K UltraHD monitors which seek to empower the professional in all of us with increased screen space and enhanced resolutions. While each could be used for gaming in theory, HP says the Z line is more focused on getting 4K out of the enthusiast’s garage and into the office.
The Z24s measures 23.8” diagonally and offers 3,840 x 2,160 resolution. It will have one MHL 2.0/HDMI 1.4 connection with HDCP support, one HDMI 1.4 port, one DisplayPort 1.2, and one Mini-DisplayPort for compatibility with all your mobile devices.
The display on the Z27s measures 27 inches diagonally across and also serves up 4K in all its glory. Connectivity options include one HDMI 1.4, one MHL 2.0/HDMI 1.4, and one Mini-DisplayPort, with HDCP support for all the aforementioned inputs.
Finally, the Z27q will sport a maximum resolution of 5120 x 2880, though the connectivity options are significantly slimmer, with only two DisplayPort 1.2 inputs included due to its increased DPI and screen real estate. The pair is necessary because a single DisplayPort can’t handle the resolution on its own.
All will come equipped with HP’s Quick Release mounting feature, which makes it easier than ever to move your screen off the desk and stick it to any other bracket of your choosing. All use IPS panel technology, as well.
Response times are the only area where the trio of UHD displays starts to slack, with the Z24s clocking about 14 milliseconds gray to gray. That drops to a much better six milliseconds in the Z27s, and the 5K Z27q closes out the lineup a mundane but not terrible eight milliseconds.
One feature the 5K monitor has over its mere 4K cousins is support for picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture modes. This lets you to hook up two devices to one screen for the ultimate news feed experience.
Both 4K displays are competitively priced, and though they won’t offer the most spectacular of response times or customization, their color representation capabilities and gamut score will make them the perfect option for creative professionals who need everything they can get out of their displays at work.
HP says we’ll see the Z27s out in January for $749, the Z24s in April for $549, and the Z27q in March at $1,299.
